I think it would be nice if I could make stairs for a wedding cake instead of using the plastic ones. I imagine they could be made of Royal Icing, fondant, gumpaste, etc. Does anybody have any instructions or method for doing this? Either straight or spiral stairs would be very nice. If I could make stairs, they could probably be any length, and fit to whatever tiers my cake ends up with.

I'm thinking of folding a strip of cardboard repeatedly so you get that stairs effect. Once achived, get a long strip of gumpaste and lay it on there, letting it take the shape of the cardboard. When dry, take the cardboard off and you got your stairs.
