Sorry to steer this OT, but I've received a couple of tips, and haven't known how to handle them from an accounting perspective.

Obviously if the tip is cash it goes straight into your pocket, verynicethankyou!! But what if it's paid by cheque?

If, say, the cake is $75, and they write you a cheque for $80, how should you handle it? I'd already set the invoice up at $75, so I added a $5 'gratuity' line to the invoice and then added the $80 payment to clear the balance to zero. Is there a better way of doing this? (I use QuickBooks)
