Help With Thailand/asian Themed Weding Cake
Decorating By ladawn250 Updated 8 Jun 2012 , 6:00pm by BakingIrene
My bother just got married in Thailand and is coming to the states for a reception here. He wants an Asian themed cake, particularly Thai, complete with elephants on it. I've searched here for some ideas but haven't found very much. If any of you could help me out with ideas/ pictures I'd sure appreciate it. You could pm them to as well. Thanks so much y'all!
I am picturing three tiers, offset squares stacked. Covered in red fondant with gold fondant "bamboo" borders and fondant elephants on top. Very simple and sophisticated.
However, we really need more information. How many servings, what are the wedding colros, any more details about the wedding, what do the invitations looks like, etc. You can probably narrow down the idea more once you know all this information.
Thanks. That sounds beautiful. It's for about 150 people and he's given me total creative freedom on colors, shapes, etc. All he cares about is that it is Thai themed and includes elephants.

Oooh I like that link that has the picture of the elephant that Doug posted! If you could make that elephant as a cake that would be freakin' awesome!
Maybe you could use fondant/gumpaste cutouts of elephants around your cakes. For inspiration for colours and patterns you should watch the King and I, the one with Yul Brynner. If you need a cheap cutter for an elephant shape my son's Playdough set has really cute animal shapes including an elephant. You could hand paint more detail on them. Hope it helps
I love the idea of using the colour red with maybe some gold on the tiers.
Here's one that has elephant cut-outs on the bottom tier:
