Coloring Buttercream Icing...

what is the best type of food coloring to color buttercream icing? in the past i have had issues with my buttercream seperating once i added the coloring. What am i doing wrong?

Hi:
I use Wilton colors. I put a small amount (a little goes a long way) on a toothpick and stir. I haven't had an issue yet.

I really like the Americolor brand, they come in a little squirt bottle and it doesn't take as much coloring to get it. I order mine on line.

hi..using oil-based or candy colour does help.

i like wilton and americolor. they are both great brands .. i like one as good as the other.. depends on what color i need to use of them.. hth

what type of buttercream do you use??? I love the americolors and i learned a little tip about coloring too! take a small portion of what youd like to color and add the color and heat it up alittle bout 10 seconds... mix then mix back in the whole amount... works way better!!
