I am trying to take the necessary steps to become legal. I live in Cook County and my dream is to be a home baker. If this isn't possible, then I would be interested in looking into the possibility of taking the next step of opening a small store front. My problem is I can't figure out our state's website to find the necessary information I need. I'm having the same problem with the county. If there are any bakers that my be able to guide me in the right direction or offer any advise, I would greatly appreciated it.

I would suggest you go to your local county department of public health. They will give you the most relevant information for your area.

I wish you the best! icon_smile.gif

From what I understand, Illinois doesn't allow home bakers. You would have to open a small shop, or find a commericial kitchen to bake out of. Good luck

Well, yes and no. Depending on the county you may be able to build a separate kitchen at your home that is up to code and work from there. Check with the local authorities.
