I have been requested to make a cake that looks like a shotgun shell. I want to make it out of red fondant with a gold fondat base. How do I make the fondant gold?

Use luster dust or airbrush color (just paint it on with a paintbrush). I use Americolor metallic airbrush colors and they come out looking really metallic...when I've used Wilton dusts in the past, you have to color the fondant first (gray for silver, yellow for gold) then mix the dust with vodka and paint it on and it comes out like a sparkly gray or yellow, not like silver or gold.

When I have painted gold or silver onto a cake, I have used Luster dust mixed with lemon extract.

I also do like Texas_Rose, I've used the Americolor metallic airbrush colors (apply with a small brush) and they do come out looking really metallic. Either gold or silver they look metallic.
Good luck!
