Good Whipped Cream Frosting Recipe?

I am making a three-tiered wedding cake and the bride has requested whipped cream frosting because she thinks buttercream is too sweet. I'm new at making cakes (they know this as well) and I'm scared that if I do whipped cream frosting it won't hold up well, even when transporting it (it's a summer wedding and it's been confirmed to be indoors).
I thought about making my buttercream recipe and then folding in fresh whipped cream, thinking it'll make the frosting more sturdier. Has anyone done this? Does it sound like a disaster in the making?
Does anyone have a good tasting whipped cream frosting recipe that's pretty sturdy and takes well to coloring?
