I am doing a R2D2 cake this week and I am using BC instead of fondant.I use the WBH soft whipped bakery BC also it is very easy to smooth round cakes but how do I do a half ball? Is there a trick? Do I just keep spinning the turntable and move my spatulas gradually up? I just want it as smooth as possible and I can't use papertowel as the icing is too soft.

Can anyone share their tips?

Thanks thumbs_up.gif

When I've done it I go from the top down, on a turntable. But I've always used the viva papertowel to get it extra smooth in the end because it's hard to get icing on a round cake smooth with a sharp edged tool.

Is your frosting a crusting buttercream? If you could get it "set", maybe put in the freezer for a few minutes, then maybe the viva papertowel method would work

My recipe isn't too soft, so I use the Melvira method to smooth it out.

If that won't work for you, maybe this will:

Funny, that video was the first thing that came to my mind as well. Looks like you beat me to it. icon_razz.gif
I hope it works for her!
