I'm making a butter pecan cake (this is actually my first venture into something other than white or chocolate cake!) and had a question. When making flavored cakes, is it better to match the filling/icing to the cake flavor (butter pecan icing) or choose a complementary flavor (caramel)?

Butter pecan with butter pecan is nice, but butter pecan with caramel will enhance each other.
