I am looking to make a 3-tier cake. Each tier approximately 4 inches high. It will have butter cream icing and then I want to add vertical brown fondant stripes around each layer maybe 1 1/2 inches apart. I have never used fondant and was looking at maybe buying the pre-made stuff from Global Sugar Art. How much should I buy and any advice on application? Can I use a pizza slicer to cut the strips? Should I buy something to make them shiny? It's for a baby shower. Thanks for all your expert advice.

I would definitely buy pre-made for your first try, just so you can get a feel for it without any other "new" things to deal with. Yes, you can use a pizza cutter - I use one all the time! LOL You can use anything that works, really! I'm not sure how much you should buy, I usually make a 3 lb batch at a time, and since you're not actually covering the cakes in it that would probably be enough. I would get a little extra for practice, though. Have fun! fondant is great!
