ok if i have to do a cake and use a ribbon type on the bottom, what do i use fondant or regular ribbon?

i am confused, if it is a regular ribbon how does the groom and bride cut the cake?

I know it seems too simple, but if it's real ribbon, they just take it off the cake.

no i know they would have to take it off, but it would be ugly. Wouldnt it be easier to do a fondant ribbon?

Is a matter of how much a bride wants to pay for this. I honestly prefer the ribbon more than the fondant, cause it always looks perfect. Fondant ribbons can be tricky to put. Some people dislike the flavor of fondant, others dont want to pay for the extra work.
At the end of the day is a matter of budget and what the brides wants.
