Question 2. If I want to pipe details on fondant should I use royal icing, or decorators icing?

1) there are many posts on this - search wire, it should get you started. dont insert the wire right in the cake. you can use gumpaste, a 50/50 mix, chocolate or ri to make shapes. you can insert the wire (toothpick, spagetti, whatever) when it the shape is wet, or else attatch it to the back when it is dry with whatever - chocolate, ri, edible glue.

2) you can use anything that u can pipe - ri, bc, chocolate, anything!
