I will be making my BIL a birthday cake in the beginning of July and I wanted to do something with this idea.. He is 11 years older than my sister so I didnt want it to be depressing or anything about getting older. I want it to be about still having fun in life and that its just a number..He will be turning 40.. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated..

If it's depressing to point out that he's 40, then just do a nice birthday cake based on his own interests.
