Does anyone know why my gumpaste figures are cracking as they are drying? It is also wrinkling. How can I fix this?

I've had this happen to my gumpaste too! Very frustrating! From what I've read from other CC'ers kneading in some shortening is suppose to help.

I was having that problem as I was making bamboo tonight. I just had some Crisco by me and would dip into when a peice started to crack and would rub it on the outside or knead it right in and it worked great

Knead the paste really well but if it's really warm then add the crisco or Trex works great!

I never had a problem with cracking. Maybe because I knead it well and always add Crisco. I also always use a mixture of gumpaste and fondant whenever I make figures or flowers.
