I am going to take and try fondant tonight and was wondering what is easier to cover, round or square cakes? Please help, any tips you all wonderful cakers have would be greatly appreciated!!! TIA!!
To me squares are actually easier. My first fondant cake was a square so that may be why though.
My only two square fondant covered cakes had major issues at the corners. Rounds weren't too great to start off with for me either but they were easier compared to square. I will be getting my courage up soon to try more square I think so I can vary my style a little more. I love the look of a mix shaped stacked cake.
But certainly, I'd started with round for my 1st so that's what I'd recommend.
I like squares, since the only seams are at the corners.
Round is generally easier for beginners, but if you do it right, no matter what the shape, there shouldn't be any seams anywhere.
I think it's because the fondant I use is different than anyone else's... And possibly because I'm not patient enough when I work with it...
I have only done round cakes with fondant, my last cake was square but it was a barn so corners were not an issue as fondant was attached in strips to mimic wood.
But I went out tonight and bought some square cake dummy's to practice on in 6" and 10".
Looking forward to playing with it too
