I have made fondant and gumpaste flowers and kept them stored in a plastic storage container for up to a month ahead . I usually let them dry for a t least a couple of days before using them anyways.

They'll last forever! Well, practically forever! icon_smile.gif I made a fondant figure for my cousin's birthday three years ago and he still has it. Fondant/gp will air dry and harden, which is what it's supposed to do. You can make your puppies ahead, no need to store in a ziplock.
