Hello all!

Can anyone tell me how to get edges of a cake perfectly straight? I level my cakes perfectly, but once i get the icing on the cake my edges seem to slope and the whole cake gets that hump in the middle. Help is greatly appreciated. icon_sad.gif

Hey, welcome to CC!

Are you filling your cake with BC or with a filling and dam? Or is this just an edges issue? If it's just the edges you're having a problem with, try the upside-down method of frosting a cake. The instructions can be found in the articles tab near the top of the page.

I prefer to use a bench scraper for the sides and an offset for the top. Be sure that when you are smoothing your edges you don't press too hard or that you don't build up the center.

I highly recommend Edna's video on Youtube.
here is a link to her site.
check out How to Frost a Cake.

Oh, thank you so much ladies, I'm going to get a bench scraper right now! I'll let you know how it turns out.

I agree with bakery_chick, Edna' video is great, (all of her videos are brill).
I tried her method this weekend for the first time and it worked for me, being a hobby/beginner I'm always looking for info and ideas, this past cake had the best edge to date. icon_biggrin.gif
