I know there have been tons of posts about AOC.
I LOVE the show, I'm watching the Hawaiian episode and am in shock at something one of the girls just did. She is making the buttercream frosting and with bare hands just grabs the butter and puts it in the mixer, then uses her bare hands to scoop the sugar in also. I know I know....no one is perfect and all that, but I have worked in a very well known food/coffee/bakery place and I was the quality control, health dept guidlines specialist. I would have written someone up in a heartbeat for that! It was just someting I noticed on the episode and wondered if anyone else did?

Ok shoot those flaming arrows....although I am NOT attacking AOC!!! LOL

As long as her hands are clean...gloved hands aren't any more clean than clean bare hands. A rubber spatula would have been nice for the scraping part, though!

That show doesn't have the best sanitation practices in general...Long hair and nail polish, anyone? They pick the cakes up and move them around with bare hands all the time, too, so I just have to assume that their hands are washed A LOT. I hope.

That was my point, we have many tools available to us....spoons, spatulas, ect...I am not trying to to get one of those threads going where everyone is at odds or at everyones throats. I was just posting one of my pet peeves.
I forget my sarcasm doesn't come across on the computer sometimes icon_eek.gif
The flaming arrows was just sarcasm, please know I am not one who wants to stir up trouble, and if I could delete this thread I would, I don't like when people are mad at me, especially when it's mostly people I admire very much...sorry for any problems. Stupid thing for me to do dunce.gif

Uhhh...I'm not mad at you, since I seem to be the only person who's responded so far. Unless you've been getting a lot of nasty pm's about it. I agree with you about the general sanitation on that show, but I have a feeling that a lot of bakeries (and other culinary locations) are just as nonchalant about it. For my own peace of mind I have to assume that they wash their hands a lot on Ace Of Cakes, and that we just don't see it on camera.

Did you read the thread recently about the nasty things that go on behind the scenes in restaurants? After reading that you'll never want to eat out again! icon_eek.gif

The only time I gagged from lack of sanitation on that show was when one of the girls was filmed working on a cake, in a very short-sleeved shirt (somewhere between reg. tshirt, and sleeveless), and you could see her ungroomed underarms plain as day.

And by ungroomed, I mean long. *shudder* I've noticed in more recent episodes, she's typically wearing long or 3/4 sleeved shirts.

Oh no costumeczar it wasn't you icon_wink.gif
I'll leave it at that. I must have missed that other thread, but I can only imagine. When I started working at the place I just left I couldn't believe what they thought was acceptable, until they got wind of the District Mngr or HD coming of course. I put a very quick stop to that. I changed camera angles and watched EVERYTHING! We had so many camers in there it wasn't even funny. It was amazing how quick being clean and sanitary became second nature once it was actually expected of them ALL the time.

I am surprised at what Food Network allows on the air. Did you see the clip of Paula Deen sticking her tongue in the chocolate fountain? They played that clip over and over as the introduction to the show Paula's Party.
