I am making cream cheese butter cream to frost a cake and I started mixing the butter, creamcheese and shortening when the butter was not yet soft enough and now it is full of small lumps of butter that are not being hit by the paddle. I have only added in a little of the sugar so far because I was hoping that the butter would soften and mix but after an hour of sitting there and mixing periodically, no luck so far.

How do I get these lumps out of my icing?

just keep beating. It should warm up and combine.

you'll have to let it warm up more... or keep beating on low speed...
