I'll be doing my first smash cake this weekend. The "main" cake for the party will be a two tiered, fondant covered princess cake and then I'll be making a smash cake for the birthday girl. I'm going to use all buttercream for the baby because she's just turning one.

My question is, how elaborate does one make the smash cake? I was thinking of a four inch round cake with a top border and a bottom border.

Thanks! icon_lol.gif

I usually just color coordinate the smash cake and usually make a 6" (smallest pan I have). Buttercream is the best choice really since, after all, it is a 'smash' cake.... just easier to smash IMO. icon_lol.gif Good Luck!

I'm pretty sure a smash cake is a 4 inch and most people keep it simple but nsync to the majr cake. You definitly want the smash to match and be a part of the major cake.

Agree w/ pp's...maybe pipe a big number 1 on top, too?
