I have a request to do number 1 cake ( i.e in the shape of number 1) for 40 people! Now, I need to know how should I go about doing it! Should I carve the number 1? What sixe sheet pan would I need to carve a cake for 40 people! Is their any other way of going about doing it?

Thanks in advance!

Could you do a sheetcake and then put a carved 1 on top of it? This way you assure that you have enough servings?

I have done Number One cakes in the past and what I have done for a cake to serve at least 40 is to bake a 12 x 18 half sheet cake and print a number one template on the computer, enlarge it (make it a fairly fat font number one to allow for the most cake possible) and then cut the "1" from the template. I almost always cover my number cakes with fondant for a very clean and polished look, but I have done them in buttercream as well. They just always look nicer covered in fondant. Hope this helps!
