I recently did a gift box cake with fondant ribbon/bow. see at http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1338253. I loved everything except the border since it did not look straight. any suggestions ?....push the ribbon in closer to cake? or make border pearls smaller?

I've wondered about this, too. I haven't tried this, but maybe you could cut the ribbon a little shorter than the bottom of the cake, leaving a gap to fill in with the border. The only other thing I have seen people do is to stop the piping when you get to the ribbon and then continue piping on the other side of the ribbon. Hope that makes sense.

What I did on my last one is I didn't do the pearls on the ribbon area. Looked better..But there are lots of cakes with this issue. I find it really annoying!

Your cake is lovely ! anyone who isn't a cake decorator wouldn't see any fault.

I think stopping your border either side of the ribbon would make it look like it's wrapped right around the cake and also save you having that problem.
