When working with an 18in round base cake do you find it easier to work with the half cake pan or the whole 18in pan? What would you use as a support board for a 5 tier cake starting with 18in base? I have always used 14in as the base cake.

I always use the 18" half round. Its easier to handle. For the board underneath, use either 1/4" or 1/2" plywood. Then you can cut it to the size you want, with plenty of support.

I use Freezer Paper, shiny side up, and I use masking tape to secure it to the underside of the plywood. icon_wink.gif
