AWell done nanny! I think I'm being too ambitious wanting to lose two stone by September! Lmao
AOh I dunno, was gonna aim for stone and Half myself, doubt I'll do that though
AI always use a large spatular to move things about.
I made my snowflakes the other day, had some time spare so cracked on, I bought one or two different designs, then coloured them in white and blue.also glittered them to.
Is your cake for this week kuuushi?
AAw well done nanny! Every time I start a diet I lose half a stone then think "yeah I can lose weight if I want to" and promptly put it back on!
Kuushi I think that would work, I cut out and leave to dry on my silicone mat sometimes, I have trouble getting stuff from mat to grease proof. And letters are so hard! When I get them nice and clean and neat then spoil them when I try to move them I'm furious!
Everyone should be jealous of me having a nessa like friend, she's the best friend anyone could wish for. :-)
ANanny what's the lace mat you used on your daughters cake called?
AMaisie, its a stupid a clock time to be up but the rain is lashing down on my velux window upstairs, grrrrr, day off too!!
I used the peacock mat, do you have it or are you getting it Maisie?
Its one strip, Is probably for me the easiest mat to use, the ophlia is the worst yet, but I may just need practise.
AJean I had a feeling , as you look a lovely colour, sultry looking on your FB page. Do you go back there at all or is you mam over here too?
Meet Olaf, not bad for first attempt, the only thing I found was a PITA was his sticks coming out of his head, initially, I made them from SP with gum tragedies, made them in the morning and left them to dry, however when I went to insert them as they're so thin they broke, ( made 2 sets) so I then though, what now.
I went with floristy wire and rolled it round that and left abit at the top so I would at least cut some groves, not happy with them and its the only thing I dont like, everything else was fine to make.
ATragedies?????? Oh blame being up at 5!
AHi nanny Barbara! I'm up! That is an amazing Olaf and im very jealous because I haven't got a reason to make one until Xmas. Weather is so hot and humid here - couldn't sleep through the night hardly. I hate it when I wake up before the alarm! Better get ready for work now - same old same old. I am gonna check in cheekily when I get to work. Kathy
AThanks Kathy, was thinking of making another one, I know we're are our own worst critics, but I make something to the first time then think, nah, end up making again, always room for improvement!!
Where do you work Kathy?
AMorning! I'm up early too!
Looove Olaf Nanny he looks fab :)
Marvel I am not at all jealous of you going to HP studios.............much (!) DH took me 2 years ago for my birthday (I'm such a big kid LOL) and it was fantastic! If you get the chance (and you like icecream soda) I highly recommend the butter-beer! Good luck getting the kids out of the gift shop at the end ;)
Kuuushi Where possible I try to cut shapes out on the surface I'm drying them on, but if that's not possible then I cut out, then leave them to firm up a tiny bit before moving, usually on a flat spatula :)
Well, the handbag behaved during transport, arrived in one bit, and they loved it! So pleased :) Now I'm back on cake designing for the nephew - apparently there's been a change of requested theme, and it's now either Tom & Jerry or Garfield!!!
Also need to head to the shops as we finally booked our holiday (Gran Canaria for a week), and I need soo much new summer stuff! I'm trying to diet too at the moment, it's going v slowly though :/ Being around so much cake and ganache has not been helping!
AHi nanny, hi days :) Nanny my cake is for next week but thinking the sooner I get everything cut the better really! That Olaf is amazing! Really well done!
AHi Mel! Never been to gran canaria! Have a nice time when you go :) we're thinking of Morocco later this year but ill book as a last minute thing knowing me lol
AOooo me, is there any of us not on a diet for hols?
My daughter would so tell me off for saying, diet, her words are, dont diet change your eating habits!she's a dietitian!
AMe neither, did Lanzarote years ago, but hubby fancied GC this time. Ours is last minute too though, going on the 21st, hense the need for speedy shopping! Morocco sounds lovely!
LOL Nanny she's totally right, but sadly that doesn't seem to lead to quicker results ;) I'm not too bad with food tbh, it's actually getting more exercise that I need to do. I have a bit of a dodgy back and knee which doesn't help motivate me! But, I'm heading off to the exercise bike this morning regardless!
Nanny love Olaf he's brilliant looks fab, I don't think you need to make another one he's great
All this diet talk is making me think I need to loose a few, no holiday for me was suppose to be going to euro disney with my mum, sister and her three kids but my sister changed her mind, I was glad to be honest meant I could get a new car instead because mine needed more repairs than it was worth.
Mel glad your handbag cake made it in on piece.
AOK then I wont make another one as long as
you all think he's OK, I know you would tell me if I needed to, no that you'd criticise me more in helpful way.
Mel, loved your bag, this one thing I havn't made.
Honestly Nanny he's brilliant .
Nanny Olaf is fine! I hated his twiggy hair too
I may have a cakey day today and get this lace on! Thinking about doing a me to you bear also as ive had a few enquiries lately but no pictures...mmmmm a spotaneous bear cake
Well jel of all the holiday talk! Sssssshhhhhhh!
AMel I went to gran canaria about ten years ago...... One of the best holidays ever. Prepare for the heat though!! The place was beautiful, the food was gorgeous and the nightlife wasn't bad either :-D
Just did my first batch of rkt's. So sticky, but have to say, really did the job I needed them to, so I am a fan (of them in small batches)
Nanny we have been eating healthily since October, except for Saturdays!!:)
AMorning all. :-D
Thanks nanny, I'm thinking about getting one and yoiursa looked pretty on that cake. Is it Claire bowman? Your Olaf is brilliant nanny, love him! I laughed at your gum tragedy!
AOh well you wouldn't wouldn't you Maisie, you laugh at all my typo's, ha ha.
Yes its the Claire bowman mat Maisie, about £16 ish from Amazon, have a go its lovely.
Newstreet, oddly enough I do eat good foods being a chef, but my downfall is the ganache, my homemade caramel sauce etc etc, cant leave it alone! I dont buy shop bought cake, but I do love my own cookies, Viennese whirl, sooooo naughty.
Also few yrs ago I used to swim regularly, 40 lengths overtime I went, which was 3,4 times week, now I do nothing, nothing at all, you lose it very quickly.
ANewstreet, would you be kind enough pass on your recipe for RKT please, could do with something like that for a few things I think.
AThanks nanny. I know what you mean, I used to be in the army, fit as a fiddle I was. Now I leave things on the stairs to take up with me next time I go and panic if my car's in the garage and I have to walk anywhere! :-D
ADid you Maisie? What regiment were you in?
My son was also in the army, Royal Sigs, came out 3 yrs ago, had some troubles but hopefully OK now.
Thanks Kathy, was thinking of making another one, I know we're are our own worst critics, but I make something to the first time then think, nah, end up making again, always room for improvement!!
Where do you work Kathy?
Barbara your Olaf was one of the best I have seen recently - and he is becoming very, very popular. My daughter made me watch Frozen and I have to say I was so glad she did. I don't like violent or sci fi films and this was a lovely little film.
Wow - what a morning! No emails or internet....some would say bliss but I really could not work without them. Think Head Office has sorted a temp fix. I work near London City Airport - in a manufacturing company. I'm the PA to the MD. Somebody said the other day about speaking other languages - I usually have to do at least one or two German translations a week. Last week though I had a treat - I had to translate a French letter (sorry, shame on me - couldn't resist).
AI started off in the WRAC, then the RCT, then the RLC. Every regiment I was in disbanded or amalgamated! I had a ball, I loved it. It was never going to last if I wanted kids tho, when I was in women couldn't be in the forces if they had children.
ANanny I got it from this lady on Facebook
Worked a treat. If the link is broken just let me know and I will type it out. I left out a few grams of rice crispies as I needed it to be really sticky.
I feel your pain with the ganache it is just so scrumptious :-)
