I have got as far as 2 square cakes and a square cut in half to make the mixer (doesn't have to be too fancy, only for my bil)

Would you use a straw or icing to make the arm to play the record? & do you think it would be possible to make a record (not necessarily from fondant) that would spin on the turntable?

Thanks for any suggestions

I did a record player inside a jukebox. For the arm I used gumpaste to form the arm. For the stack of records I did one round cake, crumb coated and bought some black disk licorice at a candy store and made the vinyl part of the record from that licorice.
Good luck

Thanks Adorable, your cake looks fab!

I very much like the liquorice idea for the records! Saves me trying to make them turn & looks very realistic from your picture. I'll have a look out for some when I do my shop for ingredients

The arm is going to be my major stumbling block I think, but I will give gumpaste a whirl & if it doesn't work out I guess I could always fall back on a straw.
