I was wondering how thick the fondant icing should be to place on a cake? I have worked with fondant before but find it to thick and very sweet. And I also found when I cut and serve a piece of cake the fondant seems to fall off.

1/8 of an inch to 1/4 of an inch, anything more than that is too thick IMO.

I like to do a normal layer of icing, then a THIN layer of chocolate fondant, more like 1/8".... I'm happy to try and help you if you need help.
