I have a 4 layer 6inch high cake to transport across town. What is the best way to get it there in one piece? Should I hold it or just put it in the trunk and pray.

I always transport my cakes in a box. I put a towel on the bottom, then the cake, then tightly pack cloths or towels around the cake base (what the cake is sitting on, not the bottom of the cake!) Then I put it on the floor on the passenger side of my car and again pack around the box so it doesn't shift, or occasionally if I use a plastic milk crate I'll actually seatbelt it in on the passenger side. I was always told to never never put a cake in a trunk!!

Thanks for your reply. I decided to let someone hold the cake and it worked out fine. I hate transporting cakes. I'm always afraid of what might happen.
