I have to make a cake for a 90th birthday. The gentleman loves Moon Pies. His family wants a cake that looks like a moon pie for around 75 guests. They want butter cake and chocolate icing. They DO NOT want any fondant. I would like some input from you guys on how you would approach this cake to make it look real. Until you actually bite into the moon pie and see the cookie and marshmallow....it's pretty boring on the outside. Any ideas, anyone?

Why not make the cake look like your second picture - with the bite out of it. You could use marshmellow fluff for the filling and coat the whole cake in chocolate ganache. HTH

This is a great idea. Make two cakes just like the picture: one full and the other leaning on it with a "bite" taken out of it. That would be fun!

Or, do the full cake and the box with it. You could probably do a buttercream transfer for the front of the box. That would be a lot of fun and certainly not boring!
