I made a cupcake cake previously for a friend, and used a crusting buttercream. (In fact if I do remember correctly it was indydebi's recipe)
I just had another friend ask if I could make her kids one for V-Day, and thought I would ask you all to see what you use for your icing!
Thanks!!!!
I use the Butter Cream Dream recipe from this site!
I keep forgetting to "watch this topic for replies" and missed all these posts!
Thank you so much for your help! I am making the cupcake cake tomorrow
I will look for buttercream dream and sugarshacks recipes!

Buttercream dream crusts nicely and I never add the meringue powder (I heard on here that meringue powder doesn't have anything to do with whether an icing crusts or not).
I use a modified BC dream since I live in a place that is usually 90% humidity, I add 2T dream whip and some different flavorings that the original recipe.
Hi neighbor!
Here is my recipe for BC Dream, no need for meringue powder.
2 sticks *salted* butter
1 cup shortning
2lbs powdered sugar
flavoring: vanilla, creme bouquet & butter
2 tablespoons dream whip
6 tablespoons water (less in the summertime humidity)
It does crust but if the humidity is high (when isn't it!?!?) I put it in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
HTH!
Please PM me if you know of any good cake supply stores in this area!
Will it effect the Buttercream Dream recipe by adding 1T of Meringue powder? Is it even necessary? My old recipe had meringue powder. And does this icing crust?
Yes, the Buttercream Dream will crust, at least it has every time I've made it.
Can you leave cupcakes out if they have buttercream dream on them? with the butter and milk I'm not sure?..
