Looking for a yummy yet sterdy chocolate and vanilla cake , like that I can carve out to shape without it falling into piece .

I always use the WASC recipe. I just change the flavor of cake mix to the flavor that I want it to be. Always comes out great and never have any problems with that recipe.
there are recipes on this site... they say durable chocolate cake recipe for carving.. or durable yellow cake recipe for carving... and then the wasc..... everyone loves this recipe... it stands for white almond sour cream cake... i make that too.. it is good for carving, etc.. hth kakelade has a recipe that says original wasc..... that is also very good.
