I'm new to using fondant and want to practice rolling it and making designs with it - without making a cake every time. What can I use for cake forms that will be as close as possible to using a real cake? Is there a type of foam or something like that I can use?

Yes, styrofoam dummies work great! If you cover them with Glad Press N Seal you can reuse them, too! I cover then put a very light coat of piping gel on it, then cover with fondant. They work great!

HTH!
