Hi,
I was hoping someone might know how best i should launder my newly purchased top. It is bright red and has a white colar and cuffs. Kinda looks like a shirt under a sweater. Anyhow, i've had this sort of top in the past and the white portion of the sweater got so discolored after washing.
What is the proper way to wash it so that the white doesn't pick up the bright color? I figure cold water is the way to go, but that's what i did last time and it didin't work well enough.
Suz

I use either salt or vinegar myself, soaking it in a plastic tub for a while before washing. As the link says, it depends on the fabric.
I put a cup of salt in the first time, using cold water. Prevents the colors from bleeding. Works every time for me.
Shout Color Catchers.

They're magic. I haven't sorted lights/darks/reds in years now.
Shout Color Catchers are definitely the way to go! I have a white chefs apron with red ties and a red and green pocket. I threw a Color Catcher in the wash and the apron came out looking brand new!
Shout color catchers are definately the way to go . I ran out of them and washed floor rugs one that was blue and a red and white stripped rug together.
I said it's just floor rugs right. The blue blead all over the white in my rugs and now they look horrible . I need to wash clothes and have not had the time to go to the supermarket. My DS goes back to school on Monday . I will wait.
I am a true believer of color catcher .
Thanks everyone! I'm heading to the grocery store, and will try and find those tide catchers.
