Hi

I want to make a cake for my brother who is coming to visit us from overseas this week. I haven't seen him in since march (last year!) so I want it to be special.

He likes the Simpsons so I thought I would make homer. I also tried chocolate transfers for the first time today so I thought I would go with that for his head.

I just cant decide on the cake itself.

1. I could make a large homer head, carve the cake to the same shape, cover in fondant and stick transfer on top (kind of like this imagining the top is a transfer ).

2. Make a sheet cake, ice in buttercream (I have only done this once or twice) and stick transfer on top.

3. Make a round cake (covered in fondant), round of the head near the neck slightly and place on top, and then do a butter cream shell border.

I like the last idea because chocolate transfer doughnuts would look really cute on the side of a round cake. Cant really decide. I took a look at the gallery but nothing really stood out at me.

Any ideas?

Did you see ALL of the Homer cakes in the gallery? I think this one is spectacular! http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=85825 It is similar to the one you referenced in #1 but the look on his face, and the added drool, and the donuts and beer...they are just priceless.

And this one is a hoot too http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=721973 as far as round cakes go. I'm not sure what you're describing in #3.

Sheet cakes can be great but I think carving his shape or doing a 3D round would "kick it up a notch" which sounds like what you want, if you said that nothing in the gallery stood out at you.

This one is really cute! I was going to make it for my son....I was so excited to do it......and then he changed his mind to Spongebob! haha. But still, this cake looks pretty easy....except for the whole making homer part! Good luck! I can't wait to see what you decided to do! ;0)

Hi! Are you totally decided on Homer, or just something Simpsons? My sister's a big fan (and bartender) so I did a Duff beer cake. It's just a rolled cake frosted with buttercream. Just another idea that was really easy.

ceshell, I love the 1st cake you have a link too, with the drool, It's Awesome!!

I was hoping to use this image - it makes it look like Homer is excited - I was going to write something like "woohoo! Josh is home!" or something like that.

I love that cake with the doughnut but its really too much work for me at the moment.
