I've been asked to make a holiday cake for a girls basketball team party. The only thing I can think of is somehow making the basketball into an ornament (maybe with a ribbon at the top). Okay, I can do that, but that's only one element on the cake. How do I fill out the rest of the cake?? What about colors? The basketball is orange... I'll sprinkle clear sugar decorations on to soften the orange a bit. Any decorating ideas? It's just a small 2-layer 9" round cake. Thanks for any help!!

extra large cake board decorated to look like a reindeer head.

Cake place at the nose -- in bright RED

caption at bottom edge of board as if coming from reindeer's mouth >>

That's my NOSE!!! == not a basketball!

name tag on reindeer --- Rudolf (of course)

How about you pipe a string of christmas lights and put a star on top. Kind of like a basketball tree.

Good luck!

How about a team of elves, in the school's colors, playing basketball at the North Pole?

These are all great ideas! Thank you so much! I'm considering playing around with the basketball/lights but any other ideas are certainly welcomed and appreciated. Thanks again! icon_smile.gif

Hey, Fellow Memphian kinda sorta in a Mississsippi way icon_biggrin.gif Memphis Mom! Nice to meet you, Cake-buddy.

My first thought was a basketball hoop that had vines and holly and berries running around the rim.

I love the snowman idea! How cute! I'll play around and see what I can come up with out of these suggestions. Thanks everyone!

k8memphis... how nice to "meet" you, too! icon_smile.gif My husband is from Memphis and we lived there for several years before we moved to MS, hence the "MemphisMom" nickname. Whereabouts in Memphis do you live? You can PM me, if you'd like.

I mean if you just used a bigger board. And put all the accoutrements on the snowman you could just use like a one layer 9" 7" 5" or 8" 6" 4" and put a hat on him and branches for arms and a carrot for a nose and coal for buttons and scarf.

Would that be too orange I wonder.

I really like that idea.

How about a basketball with a Christmas wreath wrapped around it or a wreath with mini basketballs as ornaments?
