All I can say is dowel dowel dowel dowel. I used a large rubbermaid box (i was staying w/the cake)...but you can also use the large square (10 x10?) 6" deep box propped open with press and seal wrap to cover the opening. I only used 1 dowel down the middle and planned to add more but can you believe I forgot! It was going to be in the low 40's that night so I put it in the car for the night...the next morning it was leaning just a tad. By the time I got to work, it was really leaning. Made it upstairs and onto the desk for the birthday boy where it stood for about 5 minutes before flopping over. It was sad. So, my answer......dowel around the cake instead of in the middle. Best of luck. I always find the rubbermaid containers are well worth their price if you know you can get it back.
