What do you add to buttercream for fillings? I don't like whipped cream-based fillings. I'm using crushed mint Oreos (a limited edition flavor, I think) in chocolate buttercream this weekend for a family birthday cake.

I think Nutella would be good, too.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

I used Nutella a few weeks ago, and it was amazing!! I used half nutella, half shortening to make the buttercream and it came out to a great consistancy for a filling.
Probably too soft for a rose though.

Nutella in buttercream is awesome! icon_smile.gif You can also add peanut butter (amount depends on personal taste). I have also added mini chocolate chips to chocolate buttercream-for extra chocolate icon_wink.gif and texture. You can pretty much chop up any type of candy bar and add it in too.

I tried ice cream caramel last weekend in place of the liquid, and no matter how much I put in you just couldn't taste it. It made the already sweet bc waaaay sweeter though, and very sticky. I just used it as filling; I doubt I could ever have iced a cake with it. So there's one filling NOT to try! icon_biggrin.gif

fruit puree's
melted chocolate
oreo cookies
Nutella
Passion fruit concentrate
Lemon curd or any other flavor curds
crushed peppermint candies
flavored extracts
