I'm not a decorating expert, but I have used sanding sugar....

I had no trouble getting the sugar to adhere to freshly applied buttercream.

If the corset is sugar sanded first over (non-crusting) red buttercream, the black buttercream strips can be added after.

To make the black stripes more secure you can make wax paper strips and place them where you want the stripes (so that area isn't covered by the sanding sugar). Then remove the strips and fill in with the black stripes.

Thank you SO much for your help JanH. I had a feeling she spread buttercream on it before using the sanding sugar. Will spreading buttercream over the fondant cause any problems with the fondant it self because of the moisture of the buttercream?

Thanks for All your help again!
