Hello bubble straw users! Until now I've happily used normal plastic drinking straws, but I'm thinking I'd like the bubble straws for bigger/heavier cakes. The best price I've seen is $41 for 1,050. Anyone know of a better one? Also, just how high and heavy do you go with straws and still feel comfortable transporting? TIA

That seems like a pretty good price. I've gotten my from www.bobateadirect.com and paid 3.99 for 40.

I don't assemble my cakes ahead of time, but I've done 2 4-tiered cakes with them and felt very comfortable. HTH!

I was going to try bubble straws, but are they all 1/2" in diameter? That just seems like awfully big holes in the middle of my cakes. Do you use as many straws as you would use dowels?

Thanks,
Martha

I follow Sugarshacks stacking method so there are quite a few straws in the larger tiers, but they cut nice and even and don't seem to wobble as much as dowels do (IMHO)

Yes, they're 1/2" and I agree that's a lot of "missing" cake, but I try to be generous with my servings so it works out in the end.
