I see alot of people handpainting on their cakes. What are they using and where do you find it? Also I am doing a Christmas cake soon and my design requires silver. I don't want to use gray and thats all I can come up with. Can someone tell me how to find or make a shiny silver color for painting or using in icing or fondant? Thank you all.

Silver can be achieved by using silver luster dust. Mix it with alcohol of some type (vodka or clear extract) and paint it on. Do it in thin layers for the best look.

To get a true silver you have to use NuSilver luster dust which while non toxic is not considered edible.
