Here is the October TD...
As always two contestants... Two great cakes... Spooky and Halloweeny...
Descriptions:
Contestant #1
Haunted Mansion:
This three-tier topsy-turvey haunted mansion consists
of carved 9", 7", and 5" tiers. Gumpaste trick-or-treaters are
spooked by a gumpaste mummy, a flying witch on her broom, a spider,
pumpkins, a spooky tree, and a bloody hand coming out of the grave.
All the figures are hand-molded. Cake is covered in chocolate fondant
using a wood impression mat. The roof is made from fondant cutouts
using a rose petal cutter. A fondant covered back board holds the
moon and a flying ghost to complete the scene. I used the durable
chocolate and white recipes on CC for the layers (the three fillings
include caramel, nutella, and pumpkin spice. )
Contestant #2
Witches Brew -
2 tiered cake decorated with buttercream icing and
accented with gumpaste and fondant figures. Bottom tier is a double
chocolate cake with chocolate caramel filling. Top tier is a vanilla
pound cake with chocolate hazelnut Italian cream. Both cakes iced
with buttercream icing. Moon, Witch, pumpkins, cat, bats, tombstone,
rocks and lamps all made out of homemade gumpaste. The moon is
accented with yellow luster dust around the edges for that spooky
evening glow. The freshly dug grave is shaved /chopped chocolate
pieces. Board covered with black fondant.
TFL...
i think both cakes are great... i love halloween... so i was uber excited t post a halloween TD
we will be voting on this TD until halloween... but come one cc... lets vote and show them what we are made of...
I have to say that this is the hardest one to pick I have seen!! Both are excellent, wonderful cakes!!!!
These are both fabulous and yes, the hardest one to choose yet. They both have great colors and great detail!
Can we deem it a tie? There are both awesome cakes. One cake is better than the other in one area, then the other cake is better in another area.
Mike
Two brilliant cakes. Difficult to vote to be honest. I wish both of you good luck and Well Done!

I have to agree with Mike on this one! They each did a fantastic job! It's definitely a hard one to decide.....
Good luck to both of you!
I voted ! They are both Awesome cakes and both have lots of great details!
Congrats to both on lots of hard work.
come on people a mere 100 votes...
Hey pinklesley1,
I almost didn't open this link as it wasn't obvious from a quick glance that it was a TD (to me anyway ). I just noticed the "Halloween" in the subject line. I think perhaps if you changed the title to just October TD like the others perhaps we'll get more votes ???? (just my 2 cents ).
Anyway, once again good luck to both contestants and fabulous job on both cakes. I love all the detailed work in both!
I didn't know that it was a TD either...luckily I clicked on it because those are both fabulous cakes!
Wow! Great cakes! It's going to be a hard decision. It looks like both cakes took a lot of planning and hard work. Love all the creative details on both cakes! Thanks to both participants for sharing their cakes with us!
Wow! These are BOTH just GREAT! I, too, love Halloween! From Oct 31 through January 1 I'm ALL ABOUT THE HOLIDAYS and Halloween just "jump starts" me!
Good Luck to both contestants and you are BOTH winners as far as I'm concerned!

Stunning cakes and loads of intricate detail. Another hard decision to make but the very best of luck to you both!!
Wow, OK, this is the hardest TD I've ever voter for! The cakes are fantastic, love them both! Great ideas for halloween!!!!
Its to bad that more people dont vote for these TD,S !
I wonder if a lot of people dont see the thread ?
I didnt, I had to pm someone that Had talked about it and see when it was. Its so easy to miss lots of things on the site !
Would love to see more votes! I've seen throwdowns with over 600 votes - we only have 200! Come on people, you need practice voting for the November presidential elections anyway
Fiddlesticks...that could be part of the problem. I usually don't see the threads in time and the voting has already passed me by. Kinda sucks!
These cakes are fabulous!!! They make me want to attempt one and I am a cupcake maker. Simply amazing . . . great work!

Now that we have a Cupcake Forum we should have cupcake throwdowns - I don't think I've ever seen one - maybe I just missed it??
