Hi. I wanted to make a cake for a woman who was just granted sole custody of her 7 yr old son. The cake is for the whole family to enjoy, however I'm not sure if putting "Congratulations" on the cake would be appropriate as he loves both his parents. Should I gear it more towards him....like Spiderman with what wording?...or more family-oriented.....but with what on it? The dad won't be there. Any help would be appreciated......TIA

If the mom is your friend, tell her your idea and ask her what she thinks is best for her family. She knows better than anyone else what would be weird. If it's a surprise how about just making something general, and pretty or festive. That way she doesn't have to explain to her son why he has a special cake or what the congratulations means. Sometimes words aren't necessary.
