Hi, I'm trying to find a large bag of cake flour so I can try JanH's Master mix. I usually get my flour in 25lb bags at sam's, but they only had bread and all purpose. I can only find the small boxes of soft silk at the grocery. They really add up!
Thanks,
Jodie

Try King Arthur Flour.com. They have a lot of baking supplies.

If you live near a GFS they will order one for you.

I don't know where you are located but if you have a GFS (Gordon Food Service) near you they can special order 50 lb. bags. They may take a few weeks but the savings is well worth it!

You may want to make your own cake flour by reducing each cup of AP flur by 1 Tblsp and sifting in 1 Tblsp of corn starch. It would seem to be much more cost effective when doing a large project.

GFS has Express Order .... they can get most anything the next day. Flour is a pretty standard commodity, so you should be able to pick up the flour in a day or two at your local GFS store.

That's what I get for simply scanning the posts instead of really reading!

I have been wondering the same thing!

Where else can I find some? (I'm no where near a GFS)

Thanks icon_smile.gif

Have you talked to Sam's about ordering it for you? They actually have a person in each store who is a Customer Liason. I've had them check into pricing and ordering special items for me all the time. Some they can get ... some they can't. Just talk to someone at the Cust Svc Desk.

Thanks so much! I'll look for a GFS here in Las Vegas and give Sam's a call.
Thanks again,
Jodie

Are you anywhere near a Dawn Foods? Many of their warehouses have a Will Call Desk. That's where I get mine.

Ok, so no dawn or GFS, I still need to give Sam's a call, it may be my best bet.

They only sell cake flour in 6# bags for $5. By comparison, Restaurant Depot sells 50# bags of cake flour for $15.

Jodie, You've got Freed's right there in Vegas.  One of the largest bakeries in the whole country.  Maybe they would sell you a 50# bag?  Or just ask where they buy their flour.

Does anyone make their own cake flour? Does it work just as well? Cake four just seems $$$ to me.
