My DD's teacher (3rd grade) has asked me to come up with a project to do with the class. It needs to be about maps (lattitude, longitude, compass rose, etc.), or maybe planets, since they are finishing up that unit. The teacher wants it to be hands on, and hopefully something the kids can eat later in the day (does not have to be cake...). I am totally drawing a blank on this! Can anyone get their creative juices flowing and give me some ideas on this?
When I had to do an "educational" snack back when my boys were in kindergarten, I used a series of mini-cutters and things like cheese and peanut butter clay. They'd cut out the pieces and apply to crackers or cookies. Could you do something like this for them to make their own compass rose and place the pieces on a round cookie? I'm thinking a bunch of MMF tinted and packaged in small amounts for each child or a small group. Include some pieces of large dowels so they could roll it out. This is a tough one! Good luck!
