I have an order for an 8" round chocolate cake with mocha buttercream filling covered in ganache. She wants it to be a birthday theme for a man and a woman. In her words, "Birthday theme would be good, confetti, swirls, yada, yada. It's for both a man and a woman." That's all I have to go on. Any ideas?

Just what she said, confetti icon_smile.gif Make long curls of fondant and put them all over the cake. You don't have much room on an 8" round. Nice, colorful streamers (wrap thin ribbons of fondant around a pencil; push off and allow to dry overnight) all over w/nice writing of HappyBirthday should be just right.

Another idea is to pipe balloons .... 3 or 5 on top, w/many all round the sides.

ONe other idea is to make fondant candles.....I have a pic of this idea in my photos on a sheet cake.

BTW: where in central CA are you?

Thanks for the ideas, kakeladi. That really helps. I have great ideas when it comes to complex cakes, but this simple one had me stumped for some reason. Go figure.
I'm located in the Modesto area of California.
