First, let me say that I am totally hooked on cake central. This is the most informative site for cake decorators. I have a birthday cake to make and my client wants the top tier tapered. Never done this before so I am stumped on how to do this. Do any of you cc'rs know of a tutorial on how to taper cakes?

Thanks,
Carol

Just how tapered? Just the edge? either way you will have to carve it I think

Carving is pretty easy and it helps if the cake is frozen or well-refrigerated. If you are reluctant to go that route, here is a handy tutorial for a "1-cut" turvy cake http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-601727.html

Although I am not sure if you meant turvy-shaped cake or something else, like tapered to a point? This tutorial for a flowerpot shaped cake provides some great help on carving http://www.cakecentral.com/article46-Step-By-Step-3D-Cake-Sculpting-Baby-in-a-Flower-Pot.html
