Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and cake decorating. I have never put fondant on a cake before nor have I tasted it. I just did it for the first time and it looks great! But I'm afraid it might be too thick. I used the smallest guide rings for my rolling pin. Will the fondant soften on the cake making it easy to cut or will it harden like decorations made with it do? Do I need to be prepared to cut it with a Really Sharp Knife! LOL!

Thanks so much

Fondant should be rolled to about 1/4" thick to go on the cake. The buttercream under the fondant will keep the underside soft, but, yes the otside will get "firm." You definitely need a long thin sharp knife to cut it.
