I hate baking, well I dislike it very much. Decorating I love but when it comes to baking my cakes I really have to force my self to do it. Iâm just curious to know if anybody else feels this way
I know how you feel. It's not that I HATE to bake, I just feel like it's the drudgery part of the whole cake decorating thing. I always procrastinate on it, and then it sets me back on everything else I have to do! I would be totally happy if I could get someone else to do all my baking, icing making, and fondant making for me, so I could just do the creative and fun stuff!
Me too. I'm not even that big of a cake eater. I just want to decorate it. After the cakes baked the fondant done and the buttercream is ready to go, then I happy
Not only do I HATE baking my cakes....but having to clean up the mess actually makes me mad.
Me too. I hate the baking bit and always put it off and that puts me way behind with every thing else. This is great to know I thought it was only me felt this way. Thanks for this I feel much better now about only wanting to do the creative bits.
Up until I read this thread, I was thinking it was the mixing/baking of the cakes that I hated. I gave it a bit of thought and concluded that it isn't the mixing/baking part I hate but the fact that my space isn't any bigger and I have to clean in between steps. I clean throughout the entire production time. But, I would much rather have a prep area, a finishing area and the kitchen area larger and a little more sectioned off than they are.
In short, I reckon it's the washing of dishes and cleaning up so that I am able to decorate that I hate...the fact that I have no choice but to clean up if I expect to do any decorating.
Totally agree with all4cake. I have such a small kitchen and have to clean constantly as I go. Hate cleaning my mixer all the time. I just told my DH the other day that I wish I could hire someone to do all the baking.
Me too. I'm not even that big of a cake eater. I just want to decorate it. After the cakes baked the fondant done and the buttercream is ready to go, then I happy
cake eaters are not hard to find...it's so fun giving them away!
I agree with everyone...it's so fun to deco...much more than bake...and clean...ugh.
this is a funny thread.
I'm with all4cake. I HATE cleaning up! I usually bake and decorate at my church kitchen which is HUGE! GREAT...RIGHT? WRONG! I fill up every available countertop when I decorate and THEN.....I have to clean it! YUCK!!!
I would NEVER win a Food Network Challenge (well, DUH, for more reasons than one...like I'm not a PRO!)....because they would just disqualify me for being so messy while I'm decorating! LOL

I hated the baking part too... mainly the cleaning up of the baking part... So now my mom does all the baking and I do all the decorating!!! Love it!
Okay, I must be strange LOL. I do not mind the baking part one bit. I actually enjoy baking. I HATE making buttercream. I wish someone would come in and make my icing and then I would be so happy.
I wish I could hire someone just to make the gumpaste and frosting! I only do cakes on a very limited basis becuase I have a day job, so the time spent mixing up batches of frosting and gumpaste takes away from my favorite part, decorating.
The bakign is the fun part for me too.. I love decorating too, but I love to bake. Cleaning.. I'll join you on that one.. LOL.. HATE it.
I like baking and I don't mind making the frosting or even cleaning up the mess. I can get the base coat on the cake- but by that time I have had it. Unless I can just walk away at that point and decorate the cake the next day, I wind up hating decorating.
I love baking and decorate cakes, but the cleaning part? OMG please Nooooooooooooo!!!!!
I do have a small kitchen too but the good think is that I just bake and decorate for fun (for my kids and my DH) so I just do it when I have time , but I have to be honest I would like to have my own bussines even if I have to clean every single minute, but I am realistic I need more experience. and more time because I am full time Mom and Wife.
But I am happy because on this website I am learning a lot thanks to everyone.
I hate making buttercream also. No matter how much I clean I will always find some somewhere the next day.
I am pretty organized and clean as I go.. when the cakes go in the oven I clean up the cake making mess and start on the buttercream and then clean that up. I find that by cleaning up after every step it is easier to handle.
I like baking and decorating but cleaning up is the WORST!! My husband will clean up the kitchen every day, except my cake decorating messes. He doesn't touch the mixer, tips, etc.
My mom asked me to make a wedding shower cake and she would help me anyway she could. I suggested cleaning and she said Ok. Woo hoo! That will be a new decorating experience for me.
I really like the whole process but I hate my kitchen! My oven is from the dark ages and my refrigerator never has room for a cake because there is always too much food in it because the people around here eat too much- translated I still have grown kids at home! If I want to cool my cake I have to transport it down the stairs, then outside to the detached garage, roll up the doors , and put it in the frig there which is pretty old and sometimes I wonder if it works.
I don't mind the baking. And I usually clean as I go, a habit developed from having small kitchens my whole life. But I do agree about one thing, I hate making buttercream. So much so that I have an extra refrigerator just for frosting, so I can set aside one day periodically to just make buttercream and fill up that fridge. My buttercream supply lasts a long time that way, with no loss in quality. I would love it if I could afford a helper to make the buttercream and mix colors, and then clean up for me. Then I could just do the part I love, decorating cakes.
I agree but I'll take it one step further.
It seems like after I've baked the cake, cooled the cake, made the frosting, made the filling, filled the cakes, iced the cakes (that takes me forever) sometimes made MMF, covered with MMF.............. well by then I'm too exausted to decorate the way I envisioned in my head.
Decorating is the fun part but sometimes it takes forever to get there and feels like the part that gets shortchanged.
I hate it all, baking, making icing, and cleaning. I always say that if I have enough money to hire someone I would just to make buttercream and clean up. I had a gf offer to bake the cakes but then I'd have to share the profit. I have a decent size kitchen but I still seem to get everything everywhere. Sometimes my stuff even ventures out to the dining room. I have 2 cake orders for this weekend so Im trying to clean as I go along. The kitchens still a mess but definately not like it usually is. Tonights going to be a late night.
I also hate the cleaning up part! I also have a small kitchen and it drives me NUTS! If I am doing a cake, I have no counter space for everything else. I have a total of three counters. My dishwasher gets a serious workout when I have cakes going on. I made myself a promise- if I EVER get my own shop, I am going to hire someone to go behind me and clean up my mess!
I'm so glad to hear everyone say this! I really thought something was wrong with me.
I agree that the baking and the cleaning are tedious but I really dont like making the buttercream! It just makes a greasy mess!
I like to bake, but am joining in with the dislike of cleaning.
I also dislike making buttercream, but I think part of that problem is that my kitchen aid feels like it's too small so I have to make so many batches. (and yes I only have one bowl...)
