What is the best way to attach flowers to a cake?

You can use Royal Icing to do it or a tylose glue. Aine2 has a youtube video on the glue if you search it.

Are they fresh flowers, fondant, BC or gumpaste?

It depends on what the flower is and what the icing is that it will be attached to. Are you just wanting general info covering all types or do you have a specific flower/icing combo?

The flowers are made of gumpaste and the cake will have fondant on it.

i would use gum glue it works everytime

Gum Glue or Royal Icing will work!! Good luck
