First Wedding Cake. (Construction!!!) Help!
Decorating By mandygirlxoxo Updated 16 Aug 2008 , 11:27pm by jibbies
its not really a disaster yet. im trying to avoid one..
so i have iced the bottom layer of a 3 tiered cake. they are just going to be stacked ontop of eachother. my mom was reading somewhere that you can use cardboard instead of plates for construction. but im nt sure if im suposed to wrap the cardboard in tin foil or fancy foil or just leave it be.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
please and thank you =)
I don't wrap mine either. However be careful, moisture will soak thru one layer of cardboard and make it really flimsy

I can't say I agree with this. I make my cakes on Thursday for a Saturday wedding. I cut most of my wedding cakes, so I can say with a great deal of certainty that the cardboards are holding up just fine and are not all flimsy. They're made of cardboard ... not rice paper.
I don't wrap mine either. A couple of weeks ago due to some unusual circumstances, I put the cakes on cakeboards on Monday froze them filled and crumb-coated until Friday, drove with them (boxed) for 8 hours on Friday final coated them Friday night in the Hotel. Set them up Saturday morning for a 2:00 wedding and the cardboards were fine. I know because I'm the one who cut the cake!
You'll be fine, cake decorating is stressful enough, don't make more work on yourself
I'll post a picture of the wedding cake in a few minutes.
