When Making Fondant/gumpaste Figures Do You?

Make them all white and paint with gel colors... or
Tint the gumpaste and then make them?
Also I made a batch of gumpaste tonight and need to start using it tomorrow... should I use the gumpaste straight or mix it with MMF... what ration should I use 50:50 or what?
Thanks for your advise...
I need to make a giraffe, bunny, bear and elephant for the top of a baby shower cake... I need all the advise I can get!
I tint my gumpaste first, model second then add any details by painting. it works for me. You might want to take a bit of MMF and your gumpaste, mix it tonight and make a little ball and leave it out to dry and see what it's like in the morning.
Remember gumpaste colours fade with time.
I mix 50/50 fondant/gumpaste by weighing it. I tint mine, darker, cause gumpaste usually dries a little lighter, then I dry brush petal or luster dust on when dry.
Ok well I mixed a small (1/2 inch) ball of 50-50 and let it dry overnight (about 9 hours, witha celing fan blowing on it) and it was firm on the outside, but if I squeezed it you could tell it was still soft inside... Will this dry FIRM/HARD? I don't want it to be able to get squished easily when handling it...
Thanks again for your suggestions
Add a bit more gumpaste to the mix or tylose if you want. But it will dry more as the day goes. You can even use all gumpaste with added tylose. Frustrating isn't it?
I've made things with fondant and a little gumtex added, and have them dry hard, it just takes them a few days.
I don't know what tylose is... but I think I am going to use a 25 fondant and 75 gumpaste mix... wish me luck!
